Abstract

A graph is said to be symmetric if its full automorphism group is transitive on its arcs. In this paper, a complete classification of pentavalent symmetric graphs of order $$8p^2$$ 8 p 2 is given for each prime p. It is shown that a connected pentavalent symmetric graph of order $$8p^2$$ 8 p 2 exists if and only if $$p = 2$$ p = 2 or 3, and there are four such graphs up to isomorphism.
