Abstract

The electric vehicle (EV) industry in India faces significant challenges, particularly in developing the necessary charging infrastructure. Both EV manufacturers and charging service providers encounter obstacles in producing suitable vehicles and providing adequate infrastructure. Through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), sixteen key barriers have been identified, highlighting challenges to EV adoption and providing proper infrastructure to consumers in developing countries like India. This research aims to create a comprehensive model to address these barriers using different methodologies and associated techniques such as Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), Fuzzy Set Theory (FST), Elimination and Replacement Algorithm (ERA), and Expected Utility Theory (EUT). The barriers are categorized into technical, economic, and social groups based on experts’ opinions, ensuring consideration of all stakeholders’ welfare and their views. FAHP helps assess the weighted importance of each barrier, ERA synthesizes them considering various criteria, and EUT derives precise values for estimation. The resulting hierarchical model is designed to reduce the impact of these barriers on EV adoption and infrastructure development. This model also serves as a valuable tool for industry professionals, service providers, manufacturers, and government officials, helping them navigate challenges and create a supportive environment for the EV industry.
