Design and analysis of high‐speed four‐channel WDM Radio over Fiber system for Millimeter-wave applications

Abstract

The present decade is an era of the 5G and beyond communication. It has an extensive range of applications that require wide bandwidth and high-speed data rates. The 5G communication demands a high data rate with a minimum BER. At long distances, if the data rate increases, BER will also increase. The paper reports the design and analysis of a system to achieve a high data rate with a minimum BER for long haul communication. The proposed system consists of 4-channels WDM-RoF using a data rate of 10 Gbps and a carrier of 100 GHz. The proposed system uses a WDM scheme to multiplex the four channels, and the data is transmitted over a single-mode optical fiber of length from 30 to 70 km. The system performance is evaluated using various performance indices like eye diagram, Q factor, SNR, and BER. The SNR is reported as 61.41 dB, 60.36 dB, 56.33 dB and 51.5 dB with eye height of 0.34, 0.32, 0.364 and 0.34 at 70 km for the four channels respectively. The perceived values of BER at 70 km of optical fiber length are 3.153e−9, 1.48e−8, 2.42e−10 and 2.1546e−9 and Q factor are 5.81 dB, 5.54 dB, 6.22 dB and 5.87 dB for the four channels respectively. The results show that the proposed scheme at 100 GHz performs far better than the similar systems operating at 60 GHz. The proposed method is simulated and analyzed using the Optisystem 13 tool.
