Cada quien es diferente: El efecto de la salud sobre los ingresos laborales

Abstract

The possible causal effect of health status towards labor income is studied. In an economic model people decide to move towards states of improvement in health or no improvement. The decision affects labor income. We explore models that pose other simpler causal relationships to evaluate the consistency of estimates. It is concluded that there is substantial heterogeneity in the relationship between health and labor income. Therefore, models that measure average effects are not informative. People with greater propensity to improve on health have the highest gains in labor income to do so, but the confidence intervals estimated for the marginal effects of improving on health are large.
