Technology Intelligence as a One of the Key Factors for Successful Strategic Management in the Smart World

Abstract

Purpose: Due to the poor recognition in the literature of the phenomenon of Technology Intelligence in contemporary organizations, the aim of the paper is to attempt to recognize the essence and significance of Technology Intelligence of organizations operating in a Smart World. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is conceptual-empirical in nature. The operationalization pro- posal is based on the identification and assessment of the Technology Intelligence of organizations as one of the key pillars of effective management in the Smart World. Findings: An organizationís Technology Intelligence significantly accelerates and improves the quality of many organizational processes, including smart strategic management. Unfortunately, it does not drive itself, but is one component of a larger system of activities. In order for it to realize its full potential, it must be supported by intelligently matched resource capabilities developed in the individual pillars of the Smart World (Intelligent People, Intelligent Technology, Intelligent Collaboration, Organization Intelligence). Technology Intelligence cannot function effectively without their support. Research limitations/implications: The results of the research indicate that the interviewed compa- nies already have some potential for Technology Intelligence, primarily in understanding the technology landscape. Unfortunately, they often still lack the resources and competences to apply the insights in practice (deficiencies in relation to the other pillars of the Smart World). The main constraints seem to be financial and human resources. Organizations should simultaneously develop their potential in all pillars of the Smart World. Originality/value: The original contribution of the study is to systematize knowledge about the essence and importance of Technology Intelligence in the Smart World and to propose a methodology for exa- mining its maturity in enterprises.
