Hat die traditionelle Preiserhebung bis zum Jahr 2000 ausgedient?

Abstract

The wholesale price index re vision and the introduction of the new producer and import price index in 1993 raise certain questions about price survey policy. The traditional survey is based on a carefully selected sample of reporters and products, with simple rules to take account of changing product ranges and reporters. Economic development in recent decades has brought a substantial increase in the number and complexity of products, with shorter and shorter market launch intervals. Can traditional price surveys still cope with this situation, and what new statistical components could improve them? This article discusses the possible use of random sampling to select reporters and products and internal company indicators for official statistics.
