Abstract

An analysis of cork harvesting makes it possible to interpret various socioecological elements in the southern Iberian Peninsula. We examined practices and links involving specialized collectives, their knowledge and the eco-physical context. Specifically, the ax used for harvesting cork oaks in southern Andalusia became a privileged intermediary between society and the environment. Studying the cork ax has allowed us to observe some of these relationships.
