Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the uses of water and its implications for the rural economy in the Late Middle Ages, taking as a reference the natural region of Tierra de Campos, and in a more specific way, Becerril. The study shows quite clearly the significant role played by the local politics in the regulation of water uses. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance achieved in the management of resources by territorial structures, involving many local communities in a background of strong competition for the water.
