Las sugerencias del presente. Reflexiones sobre la Historia Rural de la Edad Contemporánea en Italia

Abstract

The analysis of two important collections of essays provides the opportunity to assess contemporary Italian rural historiography. The period has been noted for many research programs, conferences and editorial production which, at the same time, marks a period of transition, the end of a phase, a possibility to pause for reflection This pause is noted for the lack of dynamism of specialized journals. Contrary to other European countries such as Spain, France, and Great Britain, an editorial renewal combined with a debate within rural history has not taken place in Italy. Challenges emerging from the new dimensions of the current rural world open up fresh research fields that the author hopes will be taken up by Italian rural experts.
