Abstract

In recent years, the household composition in Galicia has experienced profound changes, the proportion represented by the nuclear families has been increased, the average family size has been reduced, the importance of single person households has been increased, etc. These changes could involve modifications in the traditional family role as a representative of a safety area for its most vulnerable members. Therefore, this paper will examine the importance that currently has the attention to child care and dependent care within the family, focusing on the Galician case because it’s a community that, at least since the eighteenth century, has stood out for its high percentages of family complexity.
