Viability Analysis Of Financial Markets On Life Settlements And Other Instruments Linked To Life Expectancy: A Reference To The Spanish Case

Abstract

Life settlements are financial assets, by which a life insurance policyholder sells the policy to a financial intermediary in exchange for a single cash payment greater than the perceived as surrender value. Financial institutions can buy insurance policies and purchase the right to receive compensation at the date of death of the insured and thus improve the profitability of their investment portfolio. In this paper, we study the characteristics of the market and the viability of these products and other financial assets linked to life expectancy in Spain.
