Abstract

This article analyses the subject matter of modem contract theory and the way how this theory should be taught in university microeconomic courses. Neoclassical theory is compared with neoinstitutional models. The authors briefly review the literature on Contract Theory. Special attention is given to the definition of the contract. The article then characterizes some of the basic contract-theory models.
