Abstract

This article examines some of the peculiarities and actual results of regional management reforms in cities, focusing on the development of Anglo-Saxon and French local self government models. These help to demonstrate the experience of much of Western Europe and the United States, starting from 1980 and up to the present. The main directions for focusing activities in order to form a system of economic partnership and collaboration are clearly highlighted. The possibilities of exploiting this kind of foreign experience for bettering the economic management of Russian metropolitan areas are also considered.
