Abstract

This article describes plans to convert the town of Peterhoff into a central research & development center of the Russian Federation. "Scientific Cities" are a new way for the government to assist in regional development.V.N. Ivanova and J.N.Guzov present practical ways to turn Peterhoff into a scientific city. They point to the existance in Peterhoff of the St. Petersburg University, a leader in the field of education, and the Peterhoff museum-national parkinstitutions which should form the basis of the proposed project. It is expected that more than nine billion Roubles are to be spent on this project in the next four years.
