Abstract

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) has assumed a great significance in the International Business Scene, especially in the context of WTO. Rapid growth in Science and Technology, enhanced diffusion of knowledge, IT innovations, e-Commerce, liberalization of trades etc. in post-reforms era has given a true International character to IPR. Various International conventions, legal agreements/Instruments (TRIPS) etc. have come into existence to give a fillip to the ongoing process with a view to protect the intellectual rights and interests of investors, consumers and civil societies at large. This paper discusses at some length the emerging trends in the growth of agri-business and SME Sector; their perspective and identification of areas of potential growth with which IPR related issues are implicated under WTO regime, with special reference to TRIPS. The status of compliance of TRIPS in India as well as future strategies to implement and comply with IPR provisions and related issues have been highlighted.
