A Constructivist Learning Approach to Unemployment

Abstract

This article reports on an experiment aimed at developing a constructivist learning module focused on unemployment. The pedagogical aims include helping the student to construct a realistic picture of unemployment and to combat “blame the victim†ideological explanations of the problem. Students are asked to develop stories about the unemployment experience of someone they knew. Their depictions of the reality of unemployment closely parallel the expectations of many progressive economists.
