The Probable Impact of NAFTA on Non-Agricultural Employment in Mexico

Abstract

By analyzing the current employment situation in Mexico and identifying the most important changes in recent years, we argue that net job creation derived from U.S. foreign investment as a result of NAFTA will be almost nil and will not compensate for the lack of good quality employment opportunities during the eighties.
