Abstract

The spatial structure of the results of the 1990 presidential election in Poland—the first democratic election in the postwar period—is described. This is not a mere description of the voter turnout and the support for the particular candidates, but also includes definitions of multivariate election options in particular voivodeships. An attempt is also made to determine the effect of some factors on voter attitudes. In this way, the first political map of Poland has been drawn which will now be modified by political, social, and especially economic developments, and which will go into a second edition during the next parliamentary elections. In the study use was made of multivariate regression analysis and principal components analysis.
