Spatial Divisions of Labour in Practice

Abstract

This collection of comments summarises an attempt to evaluate the usefulness of Spatial Divisions of Labour in the contributors' own theoretical and empirical work. Several comments illustrate the manner in which Massey's work can be applied in contexts which differ markedly from that of Britain. Others are more critical, claiming that the relations between space, class, and gender are inadequately theorised in Massey's book. Neither the applications nor the vision about advances required would have been possible without Spatial Divisions of Labour .
