The Trend in International Payments: Britain and the United States

Abstract

Britain's economic objectives are to build her economic strength to assure her ability to bear the long-term burdens of defense, development of re sources, and raising standards of living. To achieve these objectives, Britain must maintain the Commonwealth and her own position in it and gain the effec tive collaboration of the Commonwealth, Western Europe, and the North At lantic Community in meeting the problems of the Free World. In this collabora tion a common economic policy which will result in a balance of payments is essential.—Ed.
