Abstract

In this paper I have associated the volleyball game, as it is found in the official competitions, with the general theory of the systems and the concepts of the systems. When approached as a system, the volleyball game has an image that is finite in time and space, as far as its specific activities are concerned, thus serving an ensemble of phenomena, organisations, teams, sportsmen, coaches, which are interconnected through reciprocal bonds, in order to achieve certain objectives. When seen in this manner, the volleyball game manifests itself as a functional block, which can afterwards be optimised by means of modelling, depending on the logic by which the game unfolds. One of the potential disciplines that can be used in retrieving and arranging the primary data in professional volleyball is the general theory of systems, abbreviated to TGS. If we accept the idea of associating professional volleyball to TGS in order to study the competitive game, we have to assume that volleyball is a hierarchical system. Using these systemic concepts requires the existence of teams of computer scientists which permanently participate alongside specialists in the conducting of the practices. At this moment, the volleyball team practices, the ones of authentic performance, are realised by means of a multidisciplinary participation, in teams, whose goal is to accomplish the objectification of the practice and of its components in concordance with the competition.
