Abstract

The introduction of digital technologies has changed the thinking of society and municipal authorities towards the consistency of digital technologies implementation. Yet, the problem of typological classification of the smart cities development projects has no scientific solution. The aim of this research is to provide a typological classification of the smart city development projects. The research logic was as follows. First, methodology of the smart cities assessment was analyzed to determine the basic development technologies. Then, various technology groups for different cities were estimated. And finally, these technologies were summarized by the representative groups of the projects. The research information base comprised data from the websites of municipalities and articles from the global scientific press. The smart cities development projects of the urban activity digitalization leaders were analyzed according to the IESE Center. The projects of the cities of London, New York, Amsterdam, Singapore, as well as the Russian cities of Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg and Tyumen were considered. The analysis of the smart cities projects under implementation demonstrated the following six required types of projects: human and social capital development; urban development; urban economy development; digital government establishment; digital mobility; safety and environmental protection. The scientific novelty of the proposed typology of the smart cities development projects lies in the systematic approach to economic modeling of digital technologies introduction in urban economy. The theoretical significance of the research consists in formation of a system of typical projects of urban economy digitalization. The practical importance of the result is in elaboration of the applied apparatus for designing the smart cities development.
