Abstract

This paper deals with the study of efficiency in generating social welfare of 38 Latin American economies during the period 1990-2014. For this we use the DEA technique, using the socioeconomic indicators of human development. The analysis of results reveals that Aruba, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominica, Turks and Caicos, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Sint Maarten were the most efficient economies in generating social welfare. Situation that reflects that are not necessarily the countries with more socioeconomic resources the most efficient in generating social welfare
