Abstract

Dentro do debate em curso sobre as desigualdades econômicas e sociais no Brasil, o objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a importância do mercado de crédito para o crescimento econômico dos municípios brasileiros. A partir de um modelo de crescimento econômico de Solow-Swan aumentado e a estimação de dados em painel, investiga-se como o nível das operações de crédito bancário afeta o crescimento econômico per capita nas cidades brasileiras. Os resultados conclusivos revelam uma correlação positiva entre a disponibilidade de crédito e a renda per capita dos municípios brasileiros entre 2002 e 2018. Cidades com maior nível de desenvolvimento do mercado de crédito apresentaram maior nível de crescimento econômico per capita, o que corrobora com a hipótese de que o mercado financeiro é um importante determinante do crescimento econômico.
