Abstract

Este estudo tem por objetivo explorar o caráter multidimensional e regional da globalização no Brasil. Para alcançar tal objetivo, foi desenvolvido um Índice Regional de Globalização (IRG) que abrange os estados brasileiros, para o período de 2001 a 2014, e engloba as dimensões econômica, social, cultural e política. Pode-se constatar que características além da abertura comercial, sobretudo, aspectos sociais, como imigração e turismo, são relevantes para mensurar a integração internacional dos estados, e que há assimetrias regionais a serem tratadas. De acordo com o IRG, houve aumento da globalização regional no período analisado, mas desigualdades históricas persistem: os estados mais globalizados são os pertencentes às regiões Sudeste e Sul, enquanto estados das regiões Nordeste e Norte são os menos globalizados.
