A agroindústria canavieira e seus impactos socioeconômicos na região Centro-Sul do Brasil

Abstract

O protagonismo do etanol de cana-de-açúcar na geração de energia renovável no Brasil trouxe um intenso debate acerca da evolução da agroindústria canavieira no país e seus impactos. Dessa forma, este estudo tem como objetivo mensurar os impactos do referido setor sobre os indicadores de desenvolvimento humano dos municípios da região centro-sul do Brasil, para o período de maior expansão do segmento, 2005 a 2011. Para isso, foram utilizadas as ferramentas econométricas de análise de dados em painel e regressão quantílica. Os resultados apontam que existe relação estatística positiva entre a agroindústria canavieira na região em estudo e os índices de desenvolvimento utilizados neste estudo e que os municípios com baixos índices de desenvolvimento apresentam maior resposta à presença de usinas/destilarias para esse indicador.
