Efecto del gasto público en el desempleo: el caso de Ecuador

Abstract

El objetivo de la investigación es examinar el efecto del gasto público en el desempleo en Ecuador en el periodo 1970-2016. Utilizamos datos del Banco Mundial (2017), en la cual variable dependiente es el desempleo y la variable independiente es el gasto público. Además, incluimos cinco variables de control: producto interno bruto, capital humano, inflación, inversión extranjera directa e industrialización. Mediante técnicas econométricas MCO y cointegración de largo plazo utilizando series de tiempo, los principales resultados reflejan una relación negativa entre el desempleo y el gasto público. El gasto público y desempleo evidencian una relación de largo plazo en el tiempo analizado. En base a los resultados, los encargados de generar política pública en el país deben diseñar medidas basándose en el gasto público como instrumento para disminuir el desempleo, dado que su efecto multiplicador dinamiza la economía y genera más fuentes de trabajo.
