Educación y Mercado: Diversas Consideraciones Desde La Perspectiva Republicana

Abstract

La educación es sin lugar a dudas un concepto de gran relevancia, objeto de un sin número de debates; discusiones y análisis, y ubicado en el centro de la opinión pública chilena de los últimos años2. Diversas perspectivas son tomadas en cuenta a la hora de desarrollar argumentos para fundamentar una determinada posición: consideraciones desde la filosofía y la teoría política se mezclan con otras provenientes de la teoría económica. Es así que mientras algunos consideran a la educación como un derecho social, otros argumentan que la educación es un bien de consumo, e incluso algunos argumentan que es un bien de capital. Es por esto que el presente ensayo tiene como objetivo, en un primer lugar, responder a la interrogante de si la educación puede ser considerada como un bien de consumo, para luego desarrollar la idea de si tener que pagar por una educación de calidad nos hace más o menos libres, desde una perspectiva republicana.
