La competitividad y su impacto sobre el crecimiento económico regional en la Unión Europea (1995-2004)

Abstract

RESUMEN El contexto analítico de este trabajo está caracterizado por los procesos de integración y globalización en que se ven inmersas actualmente las regiones europeas. Uno de los objetivos centrales del trabajo es analizar algunos de los principales factores de competitividad, tales como los costes laborales y la productividad. Con este fin se analiza tanto el nivel como la evolución de la competitividad regional durante el período 1995-2004. Los resultados obtenidos apuntan a la existencia de una relación significativa y de signo positivo entre el nivel competitivo y el crecimiento económico de las regiones europeas (UE-15) desde los años noventa hasta la actualidad. ABSTRACT The analytical context of this paper is characterized by the integration and economic globalization processes that affect to the European regions at the present time. We aim at analysing some of the main competitive factors, such as the labour costs and the productivity. With this objective, the evolution and level of regional competitiveness for the period 1995-2004 are analysed. Results show the existence of high regional disparities, varying with the sector. Finally, we find evidence of a significant and positive relation between the level of competitiveness and the economic growth of the European regions (EU-15) since Nineties to the present time.
