Abstract

ABSTRACT The growth of the Tenerife population during the last few years has created an increase in the demand for educational facilities. The supply-demand disequilibrium is different among towns in the island since this demographic increase has not been uniform throughout the island. These imbalances should be taken into account when decisions are made to open new educational centres. In this paper these decisions are assumed to be based on economic rationality criteria. Based on genetic programming an algorithm is designed which considers these criteria in order to plan the building of primary and secondary public schools centres in Tenerife towns.
