Abstract

RESUMEN Este trabajo estudia la participación que las infraestructuras públicas tienen en la productividad total de los factores de las regiones españolas, haciendo especial énfasis en el papel del stock de capital público en educación y sanidad. Además, como un paso previo y necesario para estudiar la contribución de estas infraestructuras públicas a las desigualdades regionales en España, también se analizan las dotaciones relativas en infraestructuras públicas, tanto económicas como sociales, de las regiones españolas. Para llevar a cabo este trabajo se utiliza la información que sobre el stock de capital público ha elaborado la Fundación BBV-IVIE para el periodo 1964-1995. ABSTRACT This paper examines how the public infrastructures affect the Total Factor Productivity of the Spanish regions by focusing specially in the role of public capital in education and health. Furthemore, as a previous step to study how the public infrastructures contribute to the regional disparities in Spain, the paper also analyzes the relative endowment of those infrastructures in the Spanish regions. In this paper, we use the data set of public capital stock that was built by Fundación BBV-IVIE for the period from 1964 to 1995.
