Convergencia en nivel de vida de las Comunidades Autónomas Españolas: Una referencia al caso de Andalucía

Abstract

RESUMEN Convencionalmente las evaluaciones sobre el bienestar en las regiones utilizan como indicador de nivel de vida el PIB por habitante. Este trabajo trata de aportar una perspectiva distinta acerca del bienestar regional mediante la utilización de indicadores alternativos. Con este propósito se ha construido una base de datos para las Comunidades Autónomas españolas y el periodo 1980- 2001 con la que se ha estimado una versión ampliada del Índice de Desarrollo Humano (IDHA) elaborado por el PNUD que incorpora indicadores de salud, de educación y de renta por habitante. Los resultados muestran que, mientras las disparidades regionales en VAB por habitante en España permanecían prácticamente estancadas, se han producido en las dos últimas décadas avances notables en la convergencia en el IDHA de las regiones españolas. ABSTRACT Evaluations of regional welfare conventionally rely on GDP per person as an indicator of wellbeing. This paper attempts to re-address the regional welfare issue using alternative indicators to capita income. With this aim, a database for the Spanish regions (NUTS II) from 1980 to 2001 has been constructed and an augmented version of the Human Development Index (AHDI) has been estimated incorporating indicators of health, education and per capita income. The results show that, whereas regional capita income disparities have practically remained constant, regional convergence in AHDI was achieved in the period.
