Racionalidad limitada en la sociedad del riesgo mundial

Abstract

Durante muchas décadas se ha pretendido que la teoría económica de la elección racional es la teoría general del comportamiento humano de la que carecen las ciencias sociales. Este artículo señala algunas de sus limitaciones. La psicología cognitiva describe los sesgos cognitivos de las personas cuando evalúan la información y eligen entre opciones, los cuales ponen en cuestión la idea de que la mente humana está programada para obrar según los supuestos de la elección racional. Por otra parte, el aumento de los riesgos económicos, ecológicos y geopolíticos en esta época de globalización ha llevado a acuñar el término “sociedad del riesgo mundial”. El tema de los límites de nuestra racionalidad en la toma de decisiones cobra preocupante actualidad por la necesidad de afrontar esos riesgos globales crecientes.
