Investigación: Variantes de Indicadores de Desempeño en las Exportaciones de Leche en Polvo en los Países del MERCOSUR

Abstract

El concepto de ventajas comparativas y más recientemente ventajas competitivas de un país en las exportaciones de un determinado producto ha sido extensamente tratado en la teoría económica, pero muy elusivo en su medición. Se han propuesto varios indicadores, cada uno con ventajas e inconvenientes según el tipo de análisis requerido. En este estudio se aplican cuatro de ellos: el Indice de Ventajas Comparativas Reveladas en las Exportaciones, su versión Logarítmica, Simétrica y Depurada de Doble Conteo. Se evalúa la evolución del desempeño de las exportaciones de leche en polvo en los países del MERCOSUR y verifica si existe alguna superioridad metodológica en alguno de los índices. Los resultados confirman posicionamientos competitivos en leche en polvo entera y descremada tanto para Argentina como Uruguay, que han aumentado entre 1990 y 2004, ya sea en relación a las exportaciones de MERCOSUR como mundiales. Los diferentes indicadores utilizados han dado resultados coherentes, y la utilización de uno u otro dependerá en mucho de algunas consideraciones de tipo metodológicas o prácticas expuestas.
