Exportaciones, terminos de intercambio y ciclos de crecimiento economico de Mexico y Brasil

Abstract

Hace seis anos publicamos un estudio comparativo de la influencia que tuvieron los terminos de intercambio, las exportaciones y las elasticidades-ingreso de las importaciones sobre la tasa de crecimiento del PIB real de Mexico y Brasil. Debido a que estas variables estadisticas abarcaban hasta el 2002 nos parecio provechoso analizar su dinamismo contrastante durante los ultimos diez anos. Este fue el motivo de la presente investigacion y por ello nos propusimos realizar una actualizacion en la misma linea. Los resultados obtenidos son primeramente, que Mexico exporta mes que Brasil pero crece menos que este. Segundo, las exportaciones mas que los terminos de intercambio determinaron el crecimiento de Mexico y los terminos de intercambio mas que las exportaciones son la variable que explica el crecimiento de Brasil. Tercero, las elasticidades-ingreso por importaciones estimadas a partir del modelo de Thirlwall son mas altas en Mexico que en Brasil.
