Abstract

[eng] Béatrice HIBOU et Mohamed TOZY — The political anthropology of corruption in Morocco : The historical basis of liberties with the law. The phenomenon of corruption or the fight against it cannot be understood without historical or cultural references in any given country. This article presents judicial news in Morocco and the way the political authorities handle the problem (notably the «cleansing campaign» of 1995 and 1996), through historical and anthropological diversion. The Moroccan juridical and political imaginary lends substance to this episode through the influence of the customary laws of segmented societies, Islamic law and the positive laws of an authoritarian regime. As such, the « cleansing campaign » and its follow-ups should be interpreted not in terms of technical or moralizing of public life, but in terms of political re-centralizing.
