Abstract

[eng] Jean CARTIER-Bresson — Corruption, liberalization and democratization. Corruption is a trendy subject. The latest perception of its noxious nature is a novelty that springs from the recent progression of democratization and economic liberalization. However the claim of a common commitment, by large international organisations involved in the debate, to fight it with a universally tailored thought, has not helped to outline credible and efficient strategies in the face of the phenomena whose causes and consequences are varied. It is therefore important to renew the basis of approaches to understanding corruption from case studies on « clientelism », liberalization, democratization, North-South power relations and poverty viewpoints. The aim of this special issue of Revue Tiers Monde is to participate in the renewal of analyses based on the appraisal of the mutations of corruption and the evolution of political, economic and social relations in a post adjustment world.
