Le commerce extérieur français des produits agro-alimentaires : l'avenir incertain

La confrontation entre ces deux géants agricoles dans le cadre du G.A.T.T. a connu de nombreux rebondissements, liés aux dynamiques de l'offre et de la demande sur les marchés mondiaux. De plus, la réforme de la P.A.C. de mai 1992 peut entraîner une moindre croissance des exportations françaises. Depuis le début de la décennie 80, la faiblesse de la demande des pays sous-développés comprime le volume des exportations françaises vers ces zones. Ces trois aspects sont susceptibles de remettre en cause la puissance exportatrice qu'est devenue l'agriculture française. Mais le véritable problème se situe surtout dans la crise actuelle que connaissent les économies de l'O.C.D.E. The reform of the C.A.P. should result in a slower growth of French exports even if prices drop, contributing to an extension of the markets. Since the beginning of the 1980s, food consumption in the developing countries has shown a clear tendancy towards deceleration. At the same time, insolvent demand seems likely to rise further. It is therefore unlikely that French agricultural exports will dramatically increase. The main obstacle to a growth of French agricultural exports may be the recession in the O.E.C.D. countries.
