[fre] Les rapports de sexe ont connu de profonds et récents changements, qui ont fait évoluer les rôles parentaux féminins et masculins. Cet article traite d'un aspect important de cette question, l'investissement parental dans la poursuite des études des enfants et ses effets sur la réussite scolaire de ces derniers, selon le sexe du parent et de l'enfant. Cette analyse s'appuie sur les données d'une enquête tri-générationnelle, qui apporte une perspective temporelle, par la comparaison inter-générationnelle et les données rétrospectives qu'elle contient. Elle montre que le transfert en capital humain tend à produire des modèles sexués, en laissant apparaître l'existence de liens préférentiels entre pères et fils et entre mères et filles. Toutefois, les mères sont plus largement investies que les pères dans l'éducation des enfants des deux sexes. Cette étude permet également de dégager trois gran­des variables fortement influentes dans le succès scolaire des enfants, le niveau d'éducation des parents, et surtout de la mère, l'incitation aux études des deux parents et le rang de l'enfant dans la fratrie. [eng] Gender relations have been affected recently by profound changes and by the evolution of the parental roles formen and women. This article deals with an important aspect of this evolution, most notably the parental investment in children's education as wellas the resuit of that investment on the levelof success ofchildren. We differentiate between the individual investment of the father and mother and its effect on their sons and daughters. This analysis relies on the data from a tri-generational study in France which brings a temporal perspective to this issue through the comparison of the different generations and the retrospective data that it includes. It shows that human capital transfers tends to produce gendered pat-terns. In effect, it demonstrates the privileged bond between fathers and sons and mothers and daughters. However, overall the mother is more globally involved in the education of her children than the father is. This study also emphasises the three main variables regarding the success ofthe children: the level of education of the parents, mainly the mothers; the amount of the active encouragement of their children's education from both parents; and the place ofthe child vis-a-vis his or her sisters and brothers.
