Abstract

[eng] The CREDOC Research Institute surveyed 754 poor people in 1994, appro-ching them directly in areas concentrating a low-income population.. This méthode proved successful to assess the efficiency of public policies designed to fight extreme poverty. It was also an opportunity to examine poverty on a broad perspective. Whereas a method based on poverty levels would have restricted the scope of people interviewed, the selection made by the CREDOC allowed surveyors to cover a whole range of financially or socially unstable people who did not fall below the poverty line.
