Abstract

[eng] European competitiveness facing harder international competition. In the last quarter of century, a general decline of the European Union trade balances has been observed in the manufacturing sector. The share of intra-EU imports has decreased since 1973 in the six original members, and economic integration has progressed only for the new members While the food and agricultural sector was taking advantage of Community preference due to the costly CAP the manufacturing sector has been injured by Community repulsion stenring from the over-valuation of european cur rencies
