Abstract
[eng] Structure, working and evolution of the international market of the news. Press agencies from 1835 to 1934. . News can be understood as the possibility for a more or less important number of people to know about an event. They are produced, demanded ; they have a priee ; they are an economic good.. An international market of the news explicitly appeared in 1859. Three press agencies — Havas, Reuter, Wolff (which will become Continental) — constituted what can be called an international oligopoly of the diffusion of the news. This one worked during three quarters of a century despite technical progress, political pressures, social changes, foundation of new agencies. Treatises were signed approximately each ten years in order to take care of such modifications.. The first world war, the crisis of 1929 brought an end to this organization. Bilateral relationships hereafter prevailed.
