Abstract
[eng] Social regulation, the activite of firms and economic performances. . Although there are many theories about how society affects the way the economy works, they are seldorn based upon a close examination of pertinent phenomena ut the microeconomic level of firms. This study of four metallurgic factories in France, the Netherlands, the United States and Cameroun follows, step by step, the effects of the national ways for settling disputes upon how organizations function, how installations work and what technical performances result. A set of processes have been highlighted that, depending on the nature of the tasks to be done, lead these national Systems to achieve, in carying degree, high technical performances. Related to questions of vertical and horizontal cooperation, this influence seems to be exercised through the " fitting " of managerial practices to the national culture.
