Abstract

[eng] Division of labour and economic growth : an old debate. Olivier Pastré. This article try ta stress an unknown aspect of the history of economic thought. While in France, in the past five years, many theoretic works have been dedicated to the « division of labour », these texts let us think that it is a new concept. It not true : a careful reading of the economic litterature (the anglo-saxon one in particular) shows that Adam Smith is not the only economist to have pointed out the importance of this concept. The « great ancients » works, enlightening usefully some of the actual debates (the « productivity dilemna » for example), stress the necessity of a dynamic analysis of the division of labour.
