Abstract

[eng] Why growth rates of business firms differ ?. . This paper deals with comparative rates of growth of firms. The distribution of growth rates does not lit with stochastic models such as Gribrat's law, although there is no close linear relationship between size and growth. We can neither rely upon sufficient statistical evidence to support a « profit-push growth » theory. It seems much more fruitful to build a « strategy-pull growth » theory which emphasizes the prominent influence exerted by the real substance of firm policies. This hypothesis leads to the conclusion that the competitors do not grow equally fast in part because they do not intend to run the same race.
