Abstract
[eng] Equities' ownersh1p by households :. Points in a comparative study for several countries. In spire of the statistical difficulty involved in international comparisons, some conclusions may be singled out. Stock ownership is far less widespread in France than in the U.S. and stands at the same level as in countries like the German Federal Republic or Great-Britain. However, the increase of the rate of ownership seems very slow in comparison to developments observed, for example, in Germany since 1967. The average stockholder may be older and more conventional in France than elsewhere.. In all surveyed countries, the rate of stock ownership and the average value of holdings appear to be positively associated ivith income, total assets, and age of the holder or family head. It would be difficult to assess any spécifie influence of professionnal activity on stock ownership beyond that of those three variables.
