Abstract

[eng] International meat trade : adjusting domestic food markets ? . International meat trade has been increasing, for the last fourty years, faster than world production. The increase of world meat production is the result of a larger utilization of grain in animal feeding. Only a few countries are mainly exporters (Oceania) or importers (Far East or South West Asia). The bulk of world meat trade is the result of market adjustments. Meat trade is one of the way of adjusting supply and demand of meat, grains, milk, oilseeds, and of allocation of agricultural land (pasture/crop). What proportion of the grain will be, in the future, traded as meat ?
