Abstract

[eng] Negative farm incomes are widespread because of production and price instability, but do structural factors also play a role? On average, net farm income was negative over four years in one in nine individual farms according to special FADN data for the years 1987 - 1990. The average loss was FF 134,000. However, this does not always mean financial hardship: the farm-family unit as a whole may be solvent. Nonetheless the farm's ability to survive is threatened.
