Abstract

[eng] European private equity : reaching adulthood . European Venture Capital has experienced much change in the last fifteen years. It may have a significant impact on the economy, more specifically on the small and medium sized firms. These firms have realised better performances than the European biggest firms. Venture capital market in Europe is developing at a fast pace, and it seems a strong trend. It remains, however, less developed than in the United States, but the gap is narrowing. This development could increase with the introduction of the euro, and a more attractive fiscal environment. Finally, the eastern countries are a great concern : is it too late to develop in these markets ? Anyway, a good knowledge of these countries and the local specificities is a necessary condition for success.
