Abstract

[eng] This article inquires the specificities of the contribution of first level contractors and systems integrators on the basis of instances taken in military aeronautics (Mirage IV, JSF F-35, 400 M). The orga nization of complex programs (CoPS) is analyzed with special reference to know ledge exchanges. Simultaneous reference to the distinction between component and architectural knowledge (Henderson & Clark 1990 ) and to recent developments on knowledge and networks (Callon 1999 ; Amin & Cohendet 2004 ) makes it possible to point out the evolution in the relationships between the first- level contractor and the other contributors to the triptych State-science-industry. Specificities of systems integration represent a new function for some of these firms. The participation to the network may be associated to the criticity of knowledge 'and competencies ) required by the on-going programs. Network consolidation depends on their relevance for the forthcoming projects.
